Let’s Start Ducking for Jesus!

As Christians, we have been given the greatest gift of all: the grace of God. While we were still in sin, Jesus saved us and made us part of His family, and we never have to be alone again. But now that we’re saved, it’s up to us to tell others about the good news that Jesus can do the same for them. “Evangelism” is kind of a scary word, but “ducking for Jesus” is a fun, easy way to spread the love of Jesus with a smile. Here is a step by step list of how you, too, can duck for Jesus.

Step 1: Choose your ducks.

First, find the perfect ducks. You want to pick ducks that already have a message about Jesus on them in case the tag gets separated. Typically, 2” ducks are the standard, but ducks can range in size and price. They go from cheap (around $.40 per duck) to expensive ($1.25 on up), depending on the style and where you buy. Whether you plan to duck a little or a lot, here are some great places you might want to look. 

You can also buy plain ducks and hand write your own message about Jesus in pen or with paint. You can decorate with ribbons, bling, or accessories. Ducking for Jesus is only limited by creativity and the amount of time and money you want to spend on them.

Step 2: Decide the occasion.

Find one that’s right for you or make your own. (Make a comment with suggestions!)

  • Going on a cruise?
  • Own a Jeep?
  • Know people who own Jeeps?
  • Heading out to a Duck Derby?
  • Want to make your office mates smile?
  • Want to send a message to your teammates, the people at the doctor’s office, or your best friends?

Or, if you’re feeling creative, you can make your own tags with a personalized message. Use the hashtag #duckforjesus to keep the hashtag relevant, and make sure you encourage people to post on social media.

Step 3: Buy, print, or handwrite your tags.

Step 4: Attach the tags to the ducks. 

You can use ribbon or rubber bands.

Step 5: Pray

It’s important to pray over the ducks before you hand them out as well as for every duck recipient. Here’s a sample prayer, but pray as you feel led. 

Dear Heavenly Father,
I ask that you be with each and every one of these ducks. Open my eyes to the perfect place to put them so that they are found by those whom You intended. Be with every person who receives one. Let it come at the perfect time to show love to the receiver and speak a message of hope and life. And let it all be done for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name, amen!

Step 6: Start Ducking for Jesus!

  • Duck Jeeps by placing them on door handles, the hood, or the front bumper.
  • Duck cruise ships in restaurants, corridors, or other public places (but never stores or the pool or hot tub).
  • Duck anybody anywhere by hiding or handing.

Step 7: Post on Social Media

Keep the hashtag relevant by posting on social media with #DuckforJesus. Give other Christians just like you the opportunity to be a part of what God is doing.

You Can Make a Difference

Regular rubber ducks bring smiles, but ducking for Jesus can open a door to joy for all eternity. You can make a difference with just a few supplies and heartfelt prayers. People duck for a lot of reasons — smiles, appreciation, fun, community — what better reason to duck than to duck for Jesus?
